CoreOS has a rapidly incrementing version, 197.0.0, 247.0.0, and so on. It is a little known fact, but the version represents the number of days since the CoreOS epoch on July 1, 2013. And we hope to make 365.0.0 a particularly special release. Over the next week this release will go through our alpha and beta channels and, if all goes well, it will be the first version to be promoted to stable. So, watch along with us in the release channel to see if this is the one!
We’ve also used this opportunity to announce our Series A funding and two new products:
•CoreOS Managed Linux is for companies looking for support as they implement CoreOS in their infrastructure.
•CoreUpdate is a new product, and provides a dashboard for full control of rolling updates.
If you are waiting for etcd and fleet support, keep an eye out as we will be announcing more soon on this front with CoreOS Cluster.
Given all the celebration, we felt it was an appropriate time to send a big thanks to the community, which has grown with us throughout the past year. Some of our highlights over the past year include:
•Over 150 git contributors to our GitHub projects
•5,000+ Github stars collectively on CoreOS projects
•CoreOS has contributed features and fixes to open source projects including: Docker, Linux Kernel, networkd, systemd and more
•Official CoreOS image added to Google Compute Engine, Rackspace, Amazon
•Joining the Docker Governance Board as a Contributing Member
•Today’s most respected technology companies and many Fortune 500 companies are using and testing CoreOS in their environments
If you are in the mood to celebrate the CoreOS epoch this Tuesday and happen to be on either coast, join us for a toast. In San Francisco, we are having our meetup on Tuesday, July 1st, 6-9 pm at Geekdom San Francisco. And if you happen to be in New York, Alex Polvi, co-founder and CEO will host a drink up celebration at Sweet and Vicious, 4-7:30 pm, for the USA vs Belgium soccer game. First drink is on CoreOS.
Thanks for your help over the past year and set your timers, the countdown to stable has begun. Once available the stable channel will be available to all users just like the alpha and beta channels. Users are encouraged to have some machines in each channel to test out changes coming to their infrastructure and to help the community find and fix bugs.
